Cameroon, officially called the Republic of Cameroon, is a country in Central Africa. Its political capital is Yaoundé, in the center of the country, but the main city is Douala, the seaport through which most international trade passes. Its area is about 480,000 km2 and its population about 25 million people.
Cameroon concentrates a little of everything the continent has to offer in terms of geographical diversity and culture, with 250 ethnic groups present: it is nicknamed "Africa in miniature" and it is said that it concentrates "All Africa in one country » !
Both Christian (40%), Muslim (20%) and animist (20%) depending on where you are, Cameroon also wants to be English-speaking and French-speaking.
The country was a German colony from 1884 to 1918, then, after the First World War, it was administered by the United Kingdom for the western part and by France for the eastern part. In 1960, the former French colony became independent, however the part administered by the United Kingdom had to wait until the following year to gain its independence, followed by the reunification of the country. The two areas are still distinguished today into English-speaking and French-speaking provinces.
Cameroon is a very culturally rich country which allows the development of great creativity on all supports of contemporary art and inspired by its traditional art.
