SERGE MIENANDI

Plastic artist

Born in 1967 in Brazzaville, Congo, Serge MIENANDI is a product of the mythical school of Poto Poto in Brazzaville (Congo). He studied art there from 1986 to 1989. He also served as a framer there for two years from 1990 to 1991.

The Poto Poto school has known its fame in particular thanks to the Miké style, which means “small” in Lingala. This style is composed of small figures with schematic and slender shapes. Easily recognizable, it is still the school's signature today and will be copied throughout Africa.

Through his painting, Serge immerses us in a kind of poetry of colors. His work oscillates from African tradition towards universal modernity.
